FC Karpaty was founded in 1963, starting out as two teams: the factory team "Lvovselmash" and the military team “SKA Lviv”. Six years later, the Green and Whites became the only team in history to win the USSR Cup without having played in the first division. A few years later Karpaty moved into the top flight and achieved a 4th-place finish in 1976.
Following the formation of the Ukrainian Premier League, the team finished third in 1998 and have played in two Ukrainian Cup finals.
Karpaty’s best result in a European competition occurred when they reached the group stages of the Europa League in the 2010–11 season, with the Lions managing a valiant draw against PSG.
